The YMCA of Liberia congratulates Amb. Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. on his inauguration as President of the Republic of Liberia. We are proud that a veteran of the YMCA movement can be elected to the highest office in our nation.

Amb. Boakai joined the YMCA through his high school YMCA (Hi-Y) Club at the College of West Africa. He served the youth and student community and was elected as President of the Monrovia YMCA Board, where he served until 2001 when he was elected as President of the National Council of YMCA of Liberia, a position he served until 2008. Since then, he has continued to be an active member and supporter of the YMCA movement.

As he takes office on January 22, 2024, our prayers and best wishes are with him, his family, the Vice President, Jeremiah Koung, and his family, and all elected and appointed officials of government. The YMCA remains a strong contributor to the development of Liberia through the empowerment of young people for the African Renaissance.
