The YMCA of Liberia and the Federation of Liberia Urban Poor Savers (FOLUPS) have been supported by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to enumerate and profile 52 settlements in Greater Monrovia (15 in Paynesville and 37 on Bushrod Island). The climate risk profiling and enumeration exercises are intended to identify and quantify the risks and hazards associated with climate change in a particular community including extreme weather events, sea-level rise, temperature changes, and other climate-related factors. The data will be shared with the Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP). They will provide decision-makers with valuable information to make informed choices about policy, planning, and investment and include decisions about infrastructure development, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.

To enhance climate resilience and improve urban living conditions in Greater Monrovia as well as strengthen institutional capacity for sustainable urban development, the YMCA of Liberia and the Federation of Liberia Urban Poor Savers (FOLUPS) will conduct a comprehensive data collection process in 52 informal settlements covering 2 cities, Paynesville and Monrovia, the Borough of New Kru Town and Garworlohn Township to inform the prioritization and design of future climate risk reduction interventions addressing flooding, sea level rise, coastal erosion and drainage issues.
